Controlled source electromagnetic interferometry by multidimensional deconvolution: Spatial sampling aspects
نویسندگان
چکیده
We review electromagnetic interferometry by multidimensional deconvolution (MDD) and investigate its sensitivity to spatial sampling. Two Sea Bed Logging datasets were modeled numerically. One represents a shallow sea situation with a small vertical source-receiver distance and the other a deep sea situation with a large vertical source-receiver distance. The reflection response from below the receivers was retrieved by interferometry by MDD after decomposition of the field into upand downgoing fields. This reflection response is independent of any effects of the water layer and the air above and consequently the same for the shallow sea and the deep sea situation. We showed, that to decompose the fields and apply MDD successfullyfor a shallow sea situation a denser sampling is necessary than for a deep sea situation.

3-D controlled source electromagnetic interferometry by multidimensional deconvolution
Controlled Source Electromagnetic (CSEM) is an important technique in hydrocarbon exploration, because it uses the large contrast in electrical resistivity to distinguishes between water and hydrocarbons. In a shallow sea environment, the airwave that is refracted from the air-water interface dominates the recorded signal at large offsets. Therefore, the hydrocarbon detection ability of the CSE...
متن کاملControlled source interferometry with noisy data
We investigate the effects of noise on controlled-source interferometry by multi-dimensional deconvolution (MDD) for diffusive electromagnetic (EM) fields and for seismic wavefields. An electromagnetic and a seismic dataset are modeled and decomposed into upand downwards decaying and upand downgoing fields, respectively. From the decomposed fields a reflection response can be retrieved using le...
متن کامل“ Virtual source ” methods for diffusive fields
The phrase virtual source refers to two different techniques in this dissertation. In the first half of the dissertation, it refers to interferometry and in the second half it uses the concept of the synthetic aperture technique. In interferometry, a receiver is converted to a “virtual source”. In the synthetic aperture technique, a large “virtual source” is constructed by adding small sources....
متن کاملSeismic interferometry by crosscorrelation and by multidimensional deconvolution: a systematic comparison
Seismic interferometry, also known as Green’s function retrieval by crosscorrelation, has a wide range of applications, ranging from surface-wave tomography using ambient noise, to creating virtual sources for improved reflection seismology. Despite its successful applications, the crosscorrelation approach also has its limitations. The main underlying assumptions are that the medium is lossles...
متن کاملControlled-source interferometric redatuming by crosscorrelation and multidimensional deconvolution in elastic media
Various researchers have shown that accurate redatuming of controlled seismic sources to downhole receiver locations can be achieved without requiring a velocity model. By placing receivers in a horizontal or deviated well and turning them into virtual sources, accurate images can be obtained even below a complex near-subsurface. Examples include controlled-source interferometry and the virtual...
